So, what is ‘meme building’ that I casually threw out in last day’s review?
Meme building is an activity of which vloggers use to gain more viewers and more familiarity, think of as a running gag... but more like communal running gag.
Take the emergency top hat, for example. It was first used in a video, then people liked it and now there’s a shirt. Now it’s the pantheon of the gags that people use in people’s videos.
By creating an infectious idea, the people can spread the infectious idea elsewhere, while feeling connected with the society... that’s why outside YouTube, the phenomenon is known as ‘an inside joke’.
Now, I have been taking a course on meme by Memetic Institute like this (Hi Mike! (This is why Mike & Molly are friends (Ah?! You see what I did there? (Oh God, I hope Heat is good...))) (Is this too much parentheses? (Doh!))) and for the research project, I was sifting through the backlog of ‘The Room’ references when I found out that Michael Rousslet was in the original screening.
Now if you don’t know what Michael Rousselet is, then look no farther than 5 Second Films, where we waste our time but not by very much.
5 Second Films is supposedly a five year project by Brian Firenzi and Michael Rousselet among their troop of ‘friends’.
As the name says, they specialize in making 5 second films that is insightful and quite delightful. They make videos every weekday but they might be running out soon! So, donate... oh, the kickstarter is finished. Okay, then continuing watching the short films!
There’s not much to review for them except that they are hilarious, (very hit and miss but remember they made thousands and they are 5 second long.) and the dynamic is wonderful. Just look at the comment videos.
Anyways, 5SF also is friends with Patton Oswalt and Bing! Yes, I have connected the two reviews in more ways than one.
So, a short explanation, a long segway and a short review. That’s it for today! Okay... Right... um... Bye. Thank for reading... Yes.
