Hah... why is insult these days... well, let me pontificate, I think it's because no one truly doesn't want to insult the person, as in you are blight in my sight. The insult nowadays are used as group identifiers, as in gay/nerd/slut... all that nonsense to peg someone for humiliation. I think that's why Shakespeare's insult are not about humiliation, modern colonialism was in early days and it wasn't thought about.
