Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 31, 2007

Hank starts a long tradition on riding things. Hank talks much closer to the speed in which he talks now, which is refreshing. Orlando is still bad, but getting better. Sending a Wii back to him might devilish, but Hank's not evil. He's just misguided. Hank gave a choice, waxing a chin or bowl of Ben & Jerry melting... Made a decision on Everybody Poops dilemma and Hank humps a bulldog. YES.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 30, 2007

Look at how John is so excited about the Wii! I mean it was new back then! Now, there's the switch. Eventually, John and Sarah would be experts at Wii Tennis. Lovely happy dance, by the way. Something from the comments obvious cribbed from Ze Frank, but Voices from the Comments... maybe not so good of a replacement. In my pants? I think? Entire picture book! PUNISHMENT!

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 29, 2007

Hank recreates the intro! Hank ambles from Asheville to Athens and here we see the first appearance of The Katherine! I wonder if Hank's still friends with these people. The accapella was exquisite. And of course, this is an beautiful extension and we have a DVD Extra! That was a cool thing!

Lonelygirl15 - Daniel's Disappearance

Daniel's Missing!
Seems like the relationship have mended, and we're moving to the next target. All right, next post.

Looking For Daniel
Woodland Hills? That's not far from LA... That makes sense. I remember going down this route.

Sleepover
This was a nice video. I guess when the plot is moving fast, there's no need to rest.

The Cowboy
This feel like Marble Hornets than Lonely Girl here... Jonas is not good. He's not good.

Miss Me?
This is posted on Daniel's channel and obvious Daniel seems... possessed. Puzzle there, too!

Finding the Cowboy - NBR Investigates
I remember this public restroom... I mean this is pretty standard California rest stop restroom. Love this being followed skit here. Yeah, Gemma's long gone is my mind... it was October?

Me For Daniel
Bree makes the offer. Bree is a good actress, as Virigina Heffernan said. I feel like this one-shot video really adds to the tension of this interaction. I really love this.

Storm The Castle
Jonas is kind of let's fight type of perspective there. And this is designed to bring the people into two sides and see who comes out in the end. Epogen is weird stuff, increase blood count?

Mmm Slurpee - NBR Investigates
Nikki gets increasingly nowhere. Why did she get out in British Consulate? Slurpee joke!

The Human Ransom
So Tachyon comes to the rescue. Very nice. This is a good production. Good synthesis of the music and everything. Nice throw, indeed. Turns out the building only had two floors. How funny.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 26, 2007

First crowd intro! Oh, you'll have two babies! And they will adorable! They would like what you imagine babies will be, because babies are predictable. Pirate vs Ninjas... was that a thing? Anyways, I love how John is complaining about food and he... still does for 100 Days. I just realized he's trying to make a conversation so he's looking to the right. But Yeti hands are looking directly forwards... The Blind Assassins in Your Pants! Also, love the expression of Yeti hands looking up, tilting.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 25, 2007

I do see Hank being more comfortable in the camera. I love the word 'jaunting' to describe movement... it's inspired. Internet was vital in 2007, almost as much as 2016. I still believe that town still don't have broadband access... nah, I'm kidding. Hank was surprisingly wrong! I wish I could look at the potential list of punishments. We have an new rule! Still enforced! That 'punishment' line. Here's the first reference to Red, which might or might not have poop on Nintendo and ate hamsters. Shepard's Pie and Kraft American Single (you know I was craving that stuff yesterday? Weird...)

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 24, 2007

First Parts video. Sarah's sock puppet might be my favorite question. Definitely deserved honor... John's book 'in your pants' is better... you'll do much more weird things. Carter Family singing!
Why this was a short video. Not that it was bad or anything. This is one of my favorites, actually.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 23, 2007

Hank being fancy, it's still one of the most funniest intros. KATHERINE MENTION! Not quite doing as good as you did last time... because Hank is still John's brother. Hank, you will be much more famous down the line... some people will call John, Hank's brother! Yeah! It will happen! Nice dance flashback, that's a good touch. What do you with a Printz award? (That is a 2009 VB joke, for notice) Congratulation with that voice makes me crack up. Hank caring about money... um, there's a reason John cares about macroeconomics and Hank cares about microeconomics. Faking things... that never stoop down that low. Sarah confirmed the fake-ness. GIRLFRIEND? So, first time we hear Katherine, which is the video after Sarah's... second voice appearance? Start of 'in your pants'. That is actually quite sweet... that last sentence. The example provided was pretty good, but mediocre.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 22, 2007

I love that shirt... survey will wait Printz Award honor! John's first swear? I mean it's a reference to someone else... Sarah's voice feels more at home now that I know her face... For those out there, remember that he can call Hank, just no textual commun(i)cation. John must have a fun family.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 19, 2007

Hank's sequel song is not as catchy. Survey! I am doing the survey obviously! Starting from Q7.
A7: I guess five year in video form and hopefully closer soon? Maybe?
A8: Change the internet? Make funny and/or insightful videos? Either of those.
A9: I'm doing a recap of Brotherhood 2.0 on their 10 year anniversary. Sitting on my bed with my laptop, just typing away in the worst posture you can have for your back. Little bit thirsty.
A10: Hopefully for another 10 minutes or so?
A11: I like Brotherhood 2.0 and I'm fascinated by being transported through time.
A12: Job, perhaps at Hank's place. Talking with people about my ideas and their ideas.
A13: College, if I'm hopeful.
A14: Nice, little bit scared and ever-looming sense of dread, but I'm okay.
A15: I didn't read too many books, but... Godel, Escher, Bach? I only skimmed it, though.
A16: Jeez, morning wake up, go on a walk on a sunny day. Meet and talk with colleague. Have a fancy lunch outside. Come home, work on my writing, dinner inside with friends. Watch YouTube.
A17: Nuclear Holocaust seems likely, but I'm going with heat death. I'm that optimistic.
A18: Kids are fine. I feel sadden by them, but also hopeful.
Q19: How do you feel about the US Prez?
A19: Hopeful, flawed but made an impact could last longer than imagined. As for the future one...
A20: A sweet strawberry.
A21: Jack-of-all-trade, master-of-none.
A22: Late mornings. Quite drowsy, day has started yet, but it's hazy.
A23: YES (CAMEO)
A24: Cheese... by a slight margin.
A25: Never went to a concert... I guess my elementary band concert?
A26: London, maybe? Although, I'm starting to change my mind on that.
A27: Time travel, although it would be more risky. Invisibility doesn't give enough goods.
A28: Science media company, perhaps a media aggregator/analyzer?
A29: Everything, but general lack of passion and abundance of cynicism.
A30: Sure?
NOW THAT'S A CATCHY SEQUEL SONG TO NANNY, NANNY, RICH KID!

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 18, 2007

I love how obsessive John is with his weight, and ten years later... he's doing the same thing. And also how bad he is at building a house of cards. ALSO BOXING! Remember, the comment about John in 100 days where he found a liking to boxing? What if he found it ten years ago?! What world will we live in if they every happened. Sad dance should be a thing. His coat is too big... I think so, anyway. Nanny, Nanny, Rich Kid obviously... absolute classic, covered so many times. It's a masterpiece.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 17, 2007

That first cut... so BAD! It's SO BAD! Talking to a libertarian seems bad, but in 2017, it's a good day, really. Good thing we have Perry to hammer those regulations!! THE EDIT IS SO BAD, holy moly is it so bad. I never felt the edit was that bad until now. Business card house, another B2.0 classics. First use of the word 'awesome'? Jammie pants, I love 2007 Hank. Stacking card is very fun!

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 16, 2007

First guest welcome, I believe. Also the first appearance of Maureen Johnson. School style, maybe preparing for Crash Course? And also why do we don't have school style divisions anymore? American Minute, compared to continental minute, of course. 40% more terrifying. Television in 2007 was not a good time, like the late 90's boom had died off and Mid-2000s shows haven't been actually good yet, so, it's that middle place... Ivanka Trump? Huh, interesting. Also, the Bears are one game away from the Super Bowl is also a funny statement considering 2017. That did not happen. John's Battle of the Books is little more structured and also less funny, as intended. You're not... Hemingway versus Faulkner would be fantastic. Compliation video will be done... next February.

I think Hank's video are funny in their substance, John's video is funny in their quips. My opinion.

Sunday, January 15, 2017

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 15, 2007

There's WEBSITE. It still exists? I'm not sure. By the way, this is probably one of my favorite videos at least in January of 2007. Definitely in the top 100. Podcast will not work until 2015. Hank singing. That's catchy! BOOK FIGHTING! It's SO GOOD! Brotherhood 2.0 Agreement Moment. That should have been a thing. Let's make it a thing again. Hank is ready. Hank has a calculator. THE QUESTION. The headcanon is firmly established and card idea is softly established. That's it.

Lonelygirl15 - Bree & Daniel's Relationship Ad Nauseam

Bree And I Hooked Up
I... am skeptical about this. I'm also skeptical about why this is necessary? Well, relationship are nice.

The Ends Justify The Means
Quote is from Eisenhower and it mentions the Dunning-Kruger effect. Am I bring punked?

Kicked Out
Daniel is being excessive, which makes some sense. He's a nineteen year old romantic after all.

Daniel's A Liar
It's an interesting reversal here with the main couple. We presented Bree as an idealist and Daniel as a realist, the kiss in September is a good example. But after the death, there's a role reversal. It's nice.

Truth Or Dare
Katharine McPhee enters as a guest here, I'm miffed. Like, having a guest that is a just a RANDOM GIRL is like... Lizzie Bennet have some guests but they have an actual connection. It's weird!

Hungover
This is a great ending to the previous day. You were drinking piss, that's what... it's a joke. That was Katharine McPhee, and she's not coming back. Ah, Fake ID. You are kind of a crap.

Investigating Pins and Pints
This was badly done... I'm the investigation was bad, the place few hundred miles away, apparently, I guess there was no local bar you can film. Well, another fruitless search. Nikki should do better.

Time To Grow Up
Bree return to be the intellectual one. It's sad that Bree has less presence here, since Jessica Rose has the most portrayal... I mean she's the main character after all. I do relate to females more...

Foosball Battle
MIDI William Tell is good. Referring to earlier, I just think Jonas's character is too boring. The actor playing plays off too cool, almost? Lizzie Bennet had much better actors, that's for sure.

Naming Bree's Dad
Strangely enough, this was the actual naming contest, as Drew Avery will be his name... like, Bree will be called Bree Avery. Like Bravery... Harry Potter reference?

Lose Something?
Finding location... looks like a scavenger hunt to me! There's a fanfic from Southern Oregon...

For The Ladies
Daniel looks likes a 1980's frat boy? That's... okay? Professor joke is... too old. Looks like a human being, Daniel is pretty bad, but like good at playing bad. I might reverse the previous decision.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 12, 2007

Drinking alcohol... jeez this was not a civil discourse here. Weight Watchers, if you think John's crisis about physical health was a recent venture... think again. Dress, Kenya, JUST GOT MARRIED! Yes, Hank got married in '05? '06? I'm not sure. Dollhouse joke is little juvenile, but also he's buzzed. Apocalypse joke had lot of layers. Well, you both have a baby now, so, there's that. Happy Dance was an actual punishment, right, or did one of them did fun? Least, another Daniel mention.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 11, 2007

OHHH, The TINY chicken! Long-standing and ever-loving tiny chicken disease. Oh, I forget swearing was a thing back in 2007. It was uncouth times. Now, we move on to housekeeping, as in Establishing punishment rules. Suggestion from the audience is introduced. 500 Miles, waxing of chin, which we will see in February, with gruesome results. Mohawk? Future punishment? YES, the business cards, which will be recurring in the next few weeks and also is featured in John's current background, as in Jan 2017. Taping cards on the head might be one of the iconic moment in Vlogbrothers, really. It's quite iconic. Yes, it is. Stop stalling. Okay.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 10, 2007

Going about the carbon footprints, which is a thing in Vlogbrothers. Quite a Leon Muss thing to think about, John. First call to Daniel Biss. This is a unusually short video. Al Gore eats carbon, indeed.

Not much to say, although this sets lot of precedents. I guess I'll see you on the next one?

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 9, 2007

Welcome to Detroit, pre-bankrupt and pre-recession. Windsor looks nice. GM HQ looks okay. I told you from earlier about Hank's value comment. Hank's 2007 humor is very nice. It's this post-modern doubling down humor that you don't find much anymore. 2007 was a weird time, things were looking up especially in the car industry and then came the crash. Flipping Hummers is a thing here. LAME! BOOK CLUB and 'I love genocide' comment. I want to know if Justin still watches.

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 8, 2007

Jeez, a needless interjection that tells how John's... privilege was not out of him yet. John seemed like a man who had lot of posturing problem and feels deeply regretful. Perhaps, he considers his fame to be, in part, due to the brash behavior of his younger self and feel deeply ashamed. John complains about not completing the challenge, which is understandable and yet understood during Hank's video. Dentist surgery mention and a yeti sneeze! There's suspicion that John doesn't know how to drive, or is terrible at driving, so Sarah drives while John sits on the side. As you see, like Woody Allen, John Green tries to use his awkwardness as humor. First mention of Daniel Biss and his new book, which is Paper Towns...! Freaking Paper Towns! But as mentioned, it was not named that at the time. Although, Babysitter's Club #26: Claudia's Sad Goodbye would be a good title for that book. Indeed he does use Shakespeare in his next book, but not here right now. Book Club suggestion ends this.

Wow, this went longer than I expected. I'm sorry about how I produced amount of salt equal those of the 'rich dad'. There's just lot things going on! Paper Towns, Daniel Biss, Yeti, Dentist...

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 5, 2007

First home video. This is first house of Hank. Realization that the things are backwards in YouTube, which leads to much false pointing throughout the years. The famous Narnia map, which is apparently super valuable and now is framed on the current setup. Hank's movie magic is adorbs. Sutter Home White Zinfadel is disgusting. There's very big rocks in Nepal. Eating corndogs and his first declaration of love. What was fuss about? And of course, the unofficial song of Vlogbrothers.

Wednesday, January 4, 2017

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 4, 2007

First mention of movie magic! I don't think Hank will agree with this, both then and now. Oh, John, it's gonna get worst. They will be some awesome pronunciation. First challenge... ends in failure. Don't worry, it'll done soon. Nepal has... seen its ups and downs. And Peter's baby is... TEN! Yikes!

Man, a decade is a long time for sure.

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 3, 2007

That sledding intro is one of my favorite intros of all time. I love how both John and Hank filmed their first videos outside of their home. Nelson joke is still good. Hank's have got it. John Green always worrying about his health, even making a series about it, ten years later! As for Hank's pudgy prediction... yes? Happy dance is revealed and also Hank's hair... I think John cares more now.

Yeah, this is how the description is go on from now... sorry, so many things happened!

Monday, January 2, 2017

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 2, 2007

This is usually considered the hidden video, as it was uploaded on a different channel, but here it is. John says he's not going to be good at this, and he's... I'll say wrong. Hank is... MY AGE, well like two or three years older, but like, he's around my age! THEY'RE BOTH IN THEIR TWENTIES! He lived in NYC and Yeti will be appearing in 2013, when the Art Assignment begins. Maggie apparently died in 2008, which is sad. Ah, eat 5 sheet of toilet paper while discussing the political situation in Nepal (STILL NOT GOOD) things are getting desperate on their second day.

Sunday, January 1, 2017

Vlogbrother's 10 Year Rewind - January 1, 2007

Welcome to the 10 year rewind of Brotherhood 2.0. The post will consist of the embedded video in question and some note below regarding my thoughts. If not embedded, there will be a link.

This first video is short, there's the intro with The Smashing Pumpkins, which is always a nice touch along with the 2007 graphic thud. Pretty much all intros for Vlogbrothers were awesome.

Every moment of the video have something to offer. Autopower off, eyes in my eyes...

Of course, there's the little noticed thing where Hank tries to avoid his eye within his eye only to cut straight into him continuing to have said eye in his eyes. It's a nice cutaway joke.

Then there's the middle section where the project is outlined, which I think is well-shot even after all those years. Song 'Crazy' in the background is well-mixed with this grimmy feel of the shot.

There are lot of people who think there is a horror element to it, and Hank adds to that certainly, saying things like 'needle in my eye' like if they are participating in a Saw game or something.

Other people point out the quietness of Hank's voice, but strangely I don't feel as jarring as I thought.
Posts will get much shorter than this. It's general sense of fatigue. So, short posts coming soon.

Vlogbrother's 2016

Okay, I'm going to do this. This is my impression for all the 2016 videos in Vlogbrothers.

TWITTER: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cI69X17HfxpETMK3UYtE5EPHTeRNd7ny-b5gXu2ZHF0 (This is basically all the tweet by Hank and John this year with some commentary)

Why Does January First Start the New Year? - New Year's Explained (Jan 1)
New Years is complicated and Vlogbrothers are complicated and that's why I like this video. This is probably a first-order video, which makes sense and also the ending creates a loop to the second and the third part which is also great. I also recommend this video by Matt Parker for better suggestions.

Who Owns Oregon? Some Historical Context on the so-called Militia Occupation of Public Lands
(Jan 5) So, let's say 2016 got off to a rough start. Bunch of militias taking a government facility and the government caring nonchalantly and eventually with no punishment feels like a foreshadowing for the rest of year, but John take a different route to emphasize the role of property in America's identity and independence, which is quite replicated in his treatise during CC:US History.
Also, reason why Malheur became a refuge is pretty similar to Obama's work on national monuments, being the president who create the most monuments... let's call it a bookend.

Who Am I?! - Some thoughts on Personal Identity (Jan 8)
Personal identity is one of my favorite philosophical topics, and indeed feature in many of my writing, which none of it is public so you don't have to know about it. Hank's frantic editing here makes for this admittedly boring video a kick and a laugh. Hank's conclusion about you being a narrative has been a fundamental tenet in my own philosophy, which I have been writing in my tumblr for the past few days, and fact that narrative is propped up by expectation is also a part.

Zero Severed Hands: On Star Wars and Making Things (Jan 12)
Severing of hand is little-known and well-appreciated theme here on Vlogbrothers. The fact about original Star Wars being 'nostalgic' is an important part of the movie's appeal. Star Wars feels timeless because it used the tropes of so many old movies to inspire the future to use those same tropes. So, in fact Star Wars is in every movie, both in the past and in the future, hence the feeling timelessness.

Eating Weird Food from the 50s (with Katherine) (Jan 15)
Katherine's first appearance and a weird food video, except it's not supposed to be weird, like it's supposed to be consumer-able, or those 50's food people were sadistic weirdos.  Katherine is cool.

The Looking for Alaska Movie, Davos, and Hufflepuff Shade: It's Question Tuesday (Jan 19)
Now a third-tier soccer team! How did you lose your Snapchat password? Title is the hard part of John Green's writing journey, definitely. Best new inside joke, Cheez Doodles. You should have paid attention, though, because if you did... well, not thinking about He-who-shall-not-be-named for a little longer is somewhat of a blessing. That Indiana primary was actually important. Answer to that primary question is NO. LIKE NO. NO. NO, IT HAS NOT. Ah, Looking for Alaska movie, the perennial stone on a hill in which John Green must roll up just to see it fall. Horrific senses in HS.

Why Are Vegetarians Annoying? (An Exploration of a Cultural Rift) (Jan 22)
Because 50's food is tough... well, it is tough, though mostly bland. Vegetarianism is something that I considered to be the fault of our moral system, much like pro-life, and I have been developing a moral system specifically so to be moral to eat meat, but not too much, because the environment and also our health. I really do think governmental program could help with the curbing of meat, because as Hank said, people have little control over their diet. Like, only thing in fast food has meat, and meat gives you extra energy, so if you are living paycheck to paycheck... having people to be more free when choosing their food will help tremendously. This by Philosophy Bro is a good counter for the second part of the video, asking if Morality is everything about being a good human...

Billionaires and Radical Hope: Thoughts from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland
(Jan 26) This is strangely a good foreshadowing for not only this year, but the near future. There's a sense of examination of this cosmopolitan, elitist, naive view of society, but in the end, a re-imagining of those beliefs as a force for good, as in something to strive for. Fish out of water?

Why the Word "Millennial" Makes me Cringe (Jan 29)
Foreshadowing? This is kind of a response to John's article at the World Economic Forum site. John has been called a millennial whisperer... which is quite funny, but, yeah, that Time article sucked! Like the Me Me Me Generation was basically a repudiation, but that article was just very weird. Recently, I've thinking how the right-wing media cut off the Baby Boomers from other sources, especially in their quest for Juvenoia, which I consider to be the final step before Republicans becoming an authoritarian cult, about how this approach not only destroys families but also the future. Those who want to 'burn it all down', doesn't care about progress. While millennials wants to grow, these people wants to stunt them and make them into their own image. It's perhaps the reason the stereotype exist, adding to this 'left behind' nature of Midwest and Appalachian WWC people.

Is the Gender Pay Gap Real? (Feb 2)
Women make less money than men. That's obvious. So the argument is not Does women make less money than men? but SHOULD women make less money than men? Should there be a rational acceptance of the pay gap, for example because women take job that pay less, for whatever reason that might be, considered that they are rational and acceptable, or they have to go and be a mother, and there shouldn't be a compensation for that fact, and other features which must be accepted in order to justify the proposition that women should make less money than males. Rest is bunk.

Honest YouTube Talk Time (Feb 5)
First, don't think people aren't interested in business, Nerdfighters are very ambitious, and wants that business knowledge. Second, Bill Wurtz have been around since before YouTube. It's quite surprising that many YouTube memes comes from well-experienced people, those who are connected with well-experienced people. Henry from Miunte Physics didn't suddenly gain fame but rather worked with Freddie Wong and gain experience from there. Vi Hart designed the nerdfighter logo! Attention is at peak, I have said before and I'll say it here. Attention has peaked and people are shifting attention and therefore there's a 'natural' upheaval for the YouTube order. Again, I believe in the Long Tail, so yeah.

Water in My Cereal: Taste Testing Various Liquid Accompaniments to Raisin Bran (Feb 9)
John puts water in his cereal. WHY. There are people who consistently discover this are horrified. Water with less sugary cereal is okay, but I just hate sugar water, milk mask the sugar, it refines it. Joking about water quality is poor taste, but man, does it work here. John is just a master at comedy.

Doing the Hard(er) Thing (and some very bad news) (Feb 12)
It's like the background song. That's a good song. I usually stay in bed, because I'm tired and/or I haven't finished thinking. Oh, that's debunked, we know that. I remember that cool pool reference.

Kindness (Feb 16)
The books of 2016 have been on fire! And hopefully not on fire, like that November night. Maybe Lemon's death and Orin's birth is a metaphor for the next four years. The community is learning.

Thanks, Lemon (Feb 19)
This eulogy is absolutely brilliant. I really Lemon's death made us get through this terrible year.

How Energy and Time Change Everything (Feb 23)
Well, because without energy or time, there cannot be change, they are the drivers of change. Physics. That's how it works. But seriously, renewal energy breakthrough might be the best news of 2016...

Things You Don't Know About Us (REUNION!) (Feb 26)
First of the reunion videos. The silliness of the two brothers... it almost feels like when these two are together, that they become younger... they go back to high school and they act silly and fun. Like that let's measure... with Goonies? There we go, Hank's going to be a great father! Emoji, wow.

Question Tuesday: The Potato Edition (Mar 1)
Potato is such a viable and so weird. Potato is... and also John will always mess up the dates, forever.

Startling Facts About the Government that Made Me Feel Good (Mar 4)
Government jobs are very small under Obama, because of the sequester. They don't employ a lot of human being, because you don't need to. Federal Government does not have many direct power. Fermi guessing here, 100,000 per state times 50 states = 5 Million plus 1,000 per county times 2000 counties and you get 2 Million and the total is 7 million which is about the same amount. Fun math! This is basic facts... but strangely unlike what Hank said, this is the fundamentals of current politics. Big government versus small government is the talking point and yes, cutting the government will probably means you will get less stuff from the government. (Cutting medicare for example)

Aida and Majeeda: Thoughts from the Azraq Refugee Camp (Mar 8)
It's so weird I think why education is so neglected in discussion. Education is such a big and important part of government and livelihood and yet it's never truly talked about... it's not a big concern for many. Foreshadowing as the wars come to a bloody, bloody end. And life goes on.

The Politics of "Parks and Rec" (Mar 11)
Parks and Rec, along with Persons of Interest, is what I called a miracle in network television. Park and Rec express government in such a way that is emphatic, kind and listening, while other shows about government goes about in a different way... although with a same heart. When people compare Leslie Knope with Hillary Clinton, I see people balk at the comparison, but I believe there's truth to that and this election had reminded me that principles, whether liberal or conservative, matter.  Ron is a principled man, we know how Ron would act in a certain situation, much like we know what Leslie would do, or April, or Andy... that's what makes a good character, but I posit that's what makes a good politician, even a good person. One with a strong character with defined and understandable changes. You don't have to be good or evil, you just need to be principled. Never trust your gut.

The Extraordinary Story of Hussam: Teenager, Writer, and Syrian Refugee (Mar 15)
Education, as Vlogbrothers argue, is the opportunity for the future. And I guess the demographic makes the show showcase kids to illustrate the point, but nevertheless, Middle East is still very young demographically, so... this video is heartbreaking and exasperating that I can't say too much.

Brazil's Government is Falling Apart...and it's Good News? (Mar 18)
Let Brazil be a good example of what's happening in this country. And what might happen after.

Understanding the Primaries: Delegates, Democracy, and America's Nonstop Political Party
(Mar 22) Primary system in US is a mess and shows our transition to a democratic government.

Snapchat Question Time! (Mar 25)
So many reunion videos this year, but in a way, makes sense. Little preview for Dear Hank and John.

My New Book, Marriage Advice, and Hamilton: 50 Snapchat Questions Answered!
(Mar 29) I always thought Hank as the funny one, but John has been significantly funnier this year.

Loving Loving Things in Los Angeles (Apr 1)
Foreshadowing as many of them will come back for the paternity leave. Seriously, the diversity and breadth of the people featured here is just amazing to me. Hank emanates the vibrance of YouTube.

What's Wrong with Monopoly? (Apr 5)
Monopoly story is one of my favorite board game story and only thing fun about Monopoly.

47 YouTubers Laugh Without Smiling (Apr 8)
This reminds of SitC 2016 video by Tomek which was bunch of YouTubers between smiles. Orin?

On the Banning of Looking for Alaska (Apr 12)
This have been a well-trodded road, but this might be the most explicit? He likes the words 'order'.

T-Shirt and Jeans and TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT (Apr 15)
I like this song because it's ska and it's hypocritical in a sense because it's about how our clothes should not tell who you are, but it's still a statement about a uniform. It's complicated, and I like it.

Literally Hitler (Apr 19)
This video is fun... considering the argument is withdrawn for the next four years. But still important.

Clinton vs. Sanders: POLICY IS EXCITING! (Apr 22)
First part of US Presidential preview, which they did instead of just making anagram as they did before and perhaps should do in 2020? I guess the people have changed and Obama doesn't exist. Like politics with Obama was fun. It wasn't momentous... even though 2008 primary was nastier.

Understanding the Tax Plans of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz (Apr 26)
Second part, focused more on the budget rather than structure of pay, which is interesting.

The Time a Taxi Driver Stole My Money (Apr 29)
This is really good question for us. Does niceness that hurt us should prevent us from being nice?
Trust is going to be really important in the coming years and we should all remind ourselves.

No Fumar (May 3)
This is just a update video, but it's such a great video. The whole thing is on the run & multi-layered.

I Hate Only Making One Video a Week (May 6)
Me too, Hank. But you shouldn't work so hard, so there's that. I also agree on the false guidance of views, especially new Vlogbrothers, because you don't need new viewers... all the new viewers suck. Like those viewer who only watches popular videos. They are less focused on community. Wizard School is coming, right? Maybe too huge? Also first of two Hank's update video? Is it true?

On Pain (May 9)
It's interesting that both brothers have chronic pain, which may add to the empathetic nature of the channel because of all things that John has said in this video. I just think that's a interesting point.

The Time I Fell Asleep with an M&M in My Mouth (and a song) (May 13)
This song should be in some indie movie. Unfortunately, the M&M is not the song. Timing?

A Brief History of the Non-Denial Denial (May 17)
Looking closely at sly wordplay like this give a great understanding of how people behave, perhaps.

I AM A GOLDEN GOD (May 20)
Tour is such a bizarre state of existence. It's so... unreal. You are removed, yet fully invested in the land and the people around you. And I think this video is with any tour video, well produced.

Easier Than IKEA: A Video in Two Parts (May 24)
There's a quite understanding that John doesn't like to be an adult, or even doesn't know how to be one, there's a reason How to Adult was in Hank's sphere of Complexly (spoiler!) even though it was literally filmed in Indianapolis! There's a reason John is the one who started the project.

Reaction Video: THE THING! (May 27)
The Thing seems to be pretty cool. Again, Hank makes pretty good tour vlog. So many moments.

The Most Amazing Day (May 31)
Hank and John might had the best end of May... it's quite invigorating. Cheez doodles happy. Indy 500 had a pretty cool, sticking out ending. And then obviously the promotion. Radio is good touch.

Redefining What it Means to Matter (Jun 3)
Of course, it's the Korean has that portrays and explicates that ennui. Mark this for moving forward.

Zaatari: Thoughts from a Refugee Camp (Jun 7)
Long awaited Thoughts from Places. This is real, this is happening. Although, it's Indianapolis.

Hank Roasts Himself Diss Track - Roast Yourself Challenge (Jun 10)
Roasting yourself seems like a Howellian challenge. Of course, by Howell, I mean Dan Howell, it's a type of performance that is self-deprecating in order to mask the pain and also reflect on that pain. Hank is actually a good rapper (See: Nerd Wars) and he makes a good play here. Also a good dancer.

Orlando (Jun 14)
I think June was the point where we realize 2016 was really going to be terrible, like actually terrible.

Hey, Let's Change Some Things (Jun 17)
This is a good foreshadowing. This is going to be very important coming in the next four years.

Syrian Refugees in the United States: One Family's Story (Jun 21)
You are never going to be disappointed, we have a very low bar. Complicated, yet hopeful. Great.

Questions (and Announcements) from VidCon (Jun 24)
Cute names and stress sheep. Peanut and not Peanut Butter! PLEASE. DO. So much letters.

New Iceland (Jun 28)
CPG Grey Grey, lovely. Great football team. Yes, Atlantic is split, but Atlantis is pretty nice.

So, I Ruptured Both my Eardrums! (Also, NerdCon: Nerdfighteria) (Jul 1)
2016 Vidcon was fantastic. It was first as-it-is Vidcon to me, like oh this could last for a while.

The Horizon Line (Jul 5)
This feel like an Act 5 of This American Life. This Indianapolis story is one of my favorite story...

Your Illness is Not Your Fault (Jul 8)
Very obvious, but very profound. Seriously, don't give 'advice' for any chronic illness. Just don't.

Our Capacity for Wonder: A Review (Jul 12)
This kind of video feels like John is in exile, somehow, like he has dodged some taxes and now is hiding in his beach house and just making audio videos every Tuesday as only mode of contact.

On Lives and Mattering (Jul 15)
Christina Grimmie's death and shooting in Dallas is profound in a way, no one really thought about. Black Lives Matter confronts us to the dark complexity of America and its reality. It's uncomforting.
Listen, it's not so bad. Listening make us wonder, make us connect in such a way that's novel.

Pretty Bad Ways to Start a Conversation (Jul 19)
Most smart people are offensive buffoons, again a bad way of starting a conversation. So effective.

Ending the Age of Outrage (at least in ourselves, if not in the world) (Jul 22)
Age of Outrage is spilled in the real world. Hopeful for that new world, but feeling little cynical?

El Chapo and Me (Jul 26)
This is such a weird thing that could happen and just it's so bizarre. It's the most 2016 of 2016 videos.

Thoughts from Comic-Con (NO MORE CHEETO MEDIA!) (Jul 29)
Comic-con is such a bizarre place and so much media! Media-ception... passion is source of revenue. Also, I think I'll try. We don't recognize how trucks and transportation impacts our lives so greatly. We take so much grant, such that, when a great change is coming, we don't even discuss it at all. Media is designed to act like these trucks, they are meant be lived in and never recognized so you're kind of stuck and continue to consume. But we should recognize the beauty of the truck and we should recognize the beauty of media and the passion for it, instead all that cheetos you eat. DONE.

Beckoning Lovely (Aug 2)
Generosity and little bit of hinting that Orin is in Katherine's tummy. Amy seems to be a great soul.

Lives Made of Love - Esther Day 2016 (Aug 3)
Terminus and gathering, what a great turning point in 2008 and a baby announcement. We love you.

Our Massive Project: How to Vote in Every State (Aug 5)
Voting is done locally, it's part of federalism and the reason you can't really hack an election. There's was a big push to 'Vote' rather actually supporting a character in 2016, and I guess that's that. I kind of hope this series get updated every few years, because things change a lot in voting systems.

Why I Didn't Vote (And Six Reasons You Might Not) (Aug 9)
The six reason are commonly iterated and yes, your votes matter, not too much, but still kind of. Also strong minority is necessary to see the shifts in changing demographics and also distributions.

AMERICA, DAMMIT! - Thoughts from Glacier National Park (Aug 12)
Patriotism of a bleeding-heart liberalism. National parks are awesome and monuments, too.

Some Good News: 16 Ways 2016 Is Not a Total Dumpster Fire (Aug 16)
Child mortality is down and Ebola now has a VACCINE! Other diseases are going down as well! Conflict are going down... then maybe up? Let's hope not. Bookstore sales are higher?

16 Sports that Should Be in the Olympics (Aug 19)
Again, my plan for the Olympics. Olympics would feature 50 sports and 550-so events, and be held for one full month. First three or so weeks will be held in 6 different cities, giving out medals in some lesser event and also preliminaries in other events. Then we move to one big city for the final week, where we get rest of medal and all other celebration things. More sports, more access, more cities. Only cities which held a world championship in the last ten years can held a preliminary spot and only cities held a preliminary spot in last twenty years can host the finals of the Olympics.

The Ocho! Sports I Want on TV (Aug 23)
Seriously, Olympics were a welcome respite from the constant barrage of the bad news.

I'm Just Going to Talk for Four Minutes (Aug 26)
One-off is so tiring. Put stuff on head is HANK'S THING. So much expert. Concept Chevy Volt. Assassin's Creed and Hanksock! John has the best idea, amazing glorious ideas SNATOMS!

My Body Is a Broken Temple (Aug 29)
Developing scurvy and living in a body. Let's feel on the body. John's pressure in publish a book.

One Scientifically Proven Thing Actually Makes People Happier (Sep 2)
The answer is commuting. Which I talk about a lot, because like most thing that is boring, I try to experiment. So I'm like a extreme commuter. Changing the urban environment is very important.

How We're Spending Your Money: The Bank of Nerdfighteria's Quarterly Report (Sep 6)
The beginning rant might be the most cynical view of United States in vlogbrothers for a long time. ADVANCED PHYSICS?!?! ANTHROPOLOGY?!?! BILL GATES... right, I know him. Textbooks!

Punk Friends (Sep 8)
I saw this live on the 360 live show, it had a crappy feed but it was also dang amazing.

Sleep Paralysis, Double-Pregnancy, and The 2016 Census (Sep 9)
It's superfecundation. Mostly happens in rabbits, but I've heard human examples. Also, again, I have not notice the tripling of clothes, like I did the first time. I just don't care about clothes. Men's clothes.

YouTube's New Thing (and a New Thing of Our Own) (Sep 13)
I guess headphone jacks... just another thing I laugh. John is just killing it this year. Community stuff. Cool idea that never really worked, because it's so remote. Community was way too late (verdict!)

Let's Talk about Failure (Sep 16)
Nerdcon: Stories was... just too beautiful. That's my take. It was like cinnabon, just too late. Video

Failing to Follow Up The Fault in Our Stars (Sep 20)
It's the self-deprecation that brings all the girls, and 'plot' is just wonderful a moment of self-deprecation. Shoulder thing should put in the mood for thrillers. I think you did read a storm story, which was first story about a brother, which I knew because you said it was to spite Hank.

How do YouTubers Make Money? (Sep 23)
It came out and also a sick burn! 'AdSense and merch' is such a industry term. Since YouTube has a revenue structure, it's more robust and other people flock into it, because many Viners made YouTube channel (and I guess vice-versa) because it was a stream of revenue, which was fortunate when Vine ended and these people had a place to continue make content. Middle class brands feels like 2010... No silver bullet, which is more fun anyway, and also that guild is going places, I tell ya.

Books, Movies, and Wonder: Thoughts from a Red Carpet (Sep 27)
This originally had been missing in the list for some reason, so I added it! I love wikis. Also this. Also I don't like this tie. I can't believe Ransom Riggs got so big with that movie adaptation. John talks so differently back then. First video with Sarah this year? I think so. Nice Magikarp!

Here are Some YouTube Tricks I Use (Sep 30)
One of things that YouTube, I think, is a constant struggle for them, is that they have great services, but no one ever use them. Like video responses, or the mail service. Just... it's ignored, it's so weird.

Drowzees and Masterpieces: Thoughts from London (Oct 4)
London museum are the best. I think they have the best museum in Europe. It's accommodating and so full of vareity of arts. It's on par with New York. You remember the London museum video?

Changing Our Business a Bit (Oct 7)
The company finally... has a new name! Complexly, it's so professional, but also personal?

Understanding Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton's Tax Plans (Oct 11)
We return to the GE version of the Presidential Primer. This is again the tax plan, because people only care about taxes, which is quite sad, but John and Hank is now a expert, like fishing boat proceeds.

Compassion, Weakness, and the 2016 Election (Oct 14)
Kind of sidenote to the primer and the myth of Strength is Control and Compassion is Weakness. Protection and aggravation. State of Union is strong? Perhaps the liberal plea for the 2016 election.

Understanding Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton's Health Care Reform Proposals (Oct 18)
Continuing the presidential primer and most importantly, the SELF-CARE BUNNY is born!

Coming Out, Goats, Government, and Attack Ads with Denise Juneau (Oct 21)
Juneau did not win (obviously) but since Zinke is now the Interior Sec. so the spot is open again.

Will the U.S. Presidential Election Be Rigged? (Oct 25)
Strange and anachronistic feature that striked once again! Massive decentralization made fraud bunk. This later part was obviously designed to combat against Trump denial of his loss which... yeah.

Give Me Your Tweets, I'll Give You My Phone | Last Video Before Leave! (Oct 28)
Hank will be in... 4 videos during the paternity leave, which not much of a leave. Yeah.

BABY! BABY! BABY! (And the 10th Annual Project for Awesome) (Nov 1)
Cheez doodle guy returns. Great turnaround. We never got the 25 charities during this year...

Stress and Joy (Nov 4)
Stress but happiness is a such a great place to be. I think the psychological term is 'flow'. It's good. Sabrina has just got better during the paternity leave. And also much better at make-up and talking.

It's Pizzamas!!! (Thoughts From the Place Where they Print Our Shirts) (Nov 7)
First Hank's paternity video and also the first of Pizzamas. Printing clothes is a theme going 2016.

A PIZZAMAS MIRACLE (Nov 8)
Still the best dancer and return of the mustache. PJ PJ, I told the clothes are a thing. GOING VOTE.

My Post-Election Thoughts (Nov 9)
This pizzamas was a mess since John made this video to... console. Hank's... leave is muddled at best.
Also, it's confirmed that Orin was born in October 29, right? Okay. Just me here, so I think I'm right.

The Museum of Pizza Johns Past (Nov 10)
Remember that this was supposed to go up when Hillary Clinton was president. This was supposed to the pizza topping to the pizza. BTW, the 'new' DFTBA crew is very fun to have around, so nice.

The Trouble with Wishful Thinking (Nov 11)
This got some flack, I mean you could frame it as Veteran's Day, but I guess Hannah's too much liberal to care about our servicemen! Also, Hannah Hart looks much younger than 5 years ago...

Who the Eff Is Hank? (Nov 14)
Who the Eff returns and Hank dancing and Craig actually had a good impression. Science of pizza, we already done last year, I believe. But this is a good rehash. (looks) cheese. Got scienced.

Good News/Bad News: A Pizzamas Video in Nine Slices (Nov 15)
Finally, actual Vlogborther makes a video since John rigged schedule to upload only 4 videos.

Why We Left Buzzfeed (Some Thoughts on Taking Risks) (Nov 16)
Sigh, there's also a guest who make a video longer than 4 minutes. I say there should be a small punishment, not a full vlogbrother punishment, but just a small one. But they decided against it. Punishment is a cherished institution and we should enforce it, and I feel left out of this conversation.
This video felt like it was going around a mountain, I just think it was just a bad topic to be here.

Decathlons, Pretension, and the Weirdest Animal I've Met: It's Question Thursday (Nov 17)
Laura Dern is going to by president and sponsored by snickers. Pizza John Hoodie is funny.

Are Pets Ethical? (Nov 18)
I mean... Golf has been about terrible. Fact-check and it's true. Adopt and not shop. Mine is... we just picked her off the street. Well, she came to our house. In fact, many dogs came into our house.

On Not Seeing Hamilton (Nov 22)
So, like Hank, John has a digestive tract problem... Crohn's disease is somewhat genetic, so hm.

You're Not Good Enough (Nov 25)
Nathan is great producer. Again, you don't know how great of an editor and mixer he is. Burrito!

Baby Poop Rookie: Vlogbrothers Reunited (Nov 29)
Hank's second video during paternity leave, as Hank is tremendously bad at paternity leave.

See you in Amsterdam, Melbourne, or Anaheim!! (also Boston) (Dec 1)
Vidcon announcement, in an extra video, nevertheless! Also, Hank's third video on leave. Jeez.

Logging Off (Dec 2)
Rosianna made a good vlogmas, this December, with many topic in my mind. People, community. That's really the thesis of this channel. As whole, like pretty much every video is heading that way.

Exactly Like the Human Sternum (Dec 6)
A clean-up video, but a good video, primer of P4A and holiday books, which is very nice.

The Difference A Decade Makes: The 10th Annual Project for Awesome Is Here! (Dec 9)
Oh... yeah. John made a extra video for P4A, so makes that Hank takes for John on Tuesday.

P4A 2016 Hilarity Reprise - OVER $2M RAISED!! (Dec 13)
Going back and a triumphant return to Vlogbrothers. Also, kind of fourth Hank video?

Fear in Art (Dec 16)
Tessa rounds up the paternity leave. I think there was more because of Pizzamas, Nine videos.

How Giraffes Mate, and Why It Matters (Dec 20)
Again, probably the definite video about Giraffe Sex here, also yeah that drop, I read that on news.

41 Dad Jokes in 4 Minutes! (with special guest star...) (Dec 23)
Orin finally appears! And also he's butter. So many joke videos, too. All of them great.

The Best of My 2016 (Dec 27)
Last look at that dumpster fire. John had a great 2016. Let's just say. Hank had... it's been okay.

The Most Interesting Thing I've Ever Done (Dec 30)
I'm skeptical as to Nerdfighteria being new, although the three-step vlogbrothers strategy is something I talked about since... 2012, I believe, back when I tried to make videos. After going through this and everything else, I really want to go to that convention. I know, if thing goes right, I might have money for it, but I think it's sold out anyway... whatever, perhaps, I'll make a stop.
